About Us

682.JPG

The origins of the Ponka Foundation stem from a collective vision to rebuild and uplift communities affected by conflict in west Africa, especially Sierra Leone’s civil war. After the war, many villages, including Ponka, were left with broken infrastructure, limited resources, and a generation of children whose futures were uncertain.

Our first initiative was to generate funds to build and operate a school in the village, Ponka Academy which has since grown to a multi-building campus for over 350 students in grades K-12.  Today, we continue to empower communities in Sierra Leone through funding initiatives for better education, healthcare, and community development projects all with the goal of promoting long-term self-sustenance.

We focus on fostering a collective sense of responsibility and pride, ensuring that the future of Ponka and surrounding villages is built by the hands of those who have always called it home.

The story of the Ponka Foundation is a testament to the power of collaboration and the belief that a collective effort can turn dreams into reality. The foundation’s success is a result of the contributions, hard work, and dedication of many people, both in Sierra Leone and abroad, all united by the vision of a better, more equitable future for the children of Ponka and beyond.
